SetSquare drops a swift follow-up to his debut TD10xx. This second full-length album entitled CR20xx lays down another vivid selection of only the purest of electronic music compositions. Described here by SetSquare, the ten tracks that comprise CR20xx span the origins through the future of electropop and krautrock with an abundance of techno and ambient sonic tangents, making a unique statement that deftly evades classification.
"CallBox: arpeggiated runs dominate this simple 2 chord vamp. Random noises, a few reversed lines, and a fuzzed-out bass riff tie it all together.
PluckMouse: a delayed heavy bass pluck meanders through an array of ambient glitches, bouncy arps, and synth melodies.
ClosedLoop: recorded all in one session, these sounds are in direct tribute to the Ex-Machina soundtrack. It's filled with a heavy, relentless bass stab, spacey drones, and a phased out sequence.
LAN-CR20: an older idea that has taken on many forms. This time with a slow trance inspired build, peaking with a heavy 4/4 groove, and ending with a movement of melancholic reflection.
Kressed I: a simple overdriven synth bass line, counterpointing the main sequence, as it steps through double, triple and quadruple time signatures.
Kressed II: coming out of the same session as Part 1, this one expands on the underlying ambient drones of the original, with a high, sparkly arpeggio floating on top to give it a sense of propulsion.
JoyfulSpin: a 3 part epic. The first movement steadily builds on a BOC inspired phrase into a straight beat, which then is taken over by a new sequence and fuzzy bass riff. A four-on-the-floor kick and syncopated percussion propel this section into a chaotic ending of swirling synth lines and recurring melodies.
Intrexed: a percolating synth noise takes centre stage in this otherwise subtle ambient jam.
DastardlyModTech: a slower, techno inspired track, with lots of percussive layers, bouncy bass, and random modulated lead synth bursts.
BetaMinusTwo: an older song, remixed down to it's minimal core, with a high arpeggio and delayed percussion, leaving just enough space for a dark, yet optimistic melody."
